10 College Scholarships Awarded at Bay Area Ceremony
In January, Posse Bay Area held its inaugural Awards Ceremony at Runway Incubator in San Francisco. Ten incredible high school seniors—the first Posse Scholars selected from the Bay Area—received four-year, full-tuition college scholarships from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington.
Richard Carranza, the superintendent of the San Francisco Unified School District, and Antwan Wilson, the superintendent of the Oakland Unified School District, delivered rousing speeches to the new Scholars, their families, high school counselors, Posse alumni, board members, donors, volunteers and local supporters.
Puget Sound Vice President of Enrollment Jenny Rickard gave the Posse Scholars and their families a warm and inspiring welcome to the Logger community. She was joined by a strong contingent from the Puget Sound alumni community.
“I had a great time meeting the students and I am so excited for them,” said Isabelle DuPont, the alumni admission regional captain for Puget Sound. “I walked out of the ceremony with such a huge smile on my face and felt really inspired.”
The new Scholars—who reside in San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose—will begin at Puget Sound in the fall after completing eight months of Pre-Collegiate Training, which helps Scholars prepare to work as a team and to be leaders on campus and in the classroom.
