100 Los Angeles Youth Receive College Scholarships at Awards Ceremony
On January 9, Posse Los Angeles held its 12th annual Awards Ceremony at the iconic Paramount Pictures Theatre. One hundred Scholars were formally inducted into the Posse family, including the first Pepperdine University Posse from Los Angeles.
As Posse Scholars, these students are awarded full-tuition merit scholarships worth nearly $17 million. The Awards Ceremony marks the start of a lifelong relationship with The Posse Foundation that will see them through graduation and as they become leaders in the workforce.
More than 550 guests—Scholars and their families, nominators, volunteers and representatives from 10 partner institutions—attended the ceremony sponsored by Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP to celebrate the accomplishments and leadership potential of the newly selected Scholars.
“This was a unique experience, to be acknowledged for all of our hard work and be rewarded with a full-tuition scholarship” said Jason Basulto, who will attend Northwestern University in the fall. “It was a great feeling to be at Paramount Pictures, surrounded by our new Posse family.”
Since 2002, Posse Los Angles has selected 750 talented and diverse leaders to attend some of the nation’s top colleges and universities. Scholars selected this year will attend Bucknell University, Dickinson College, Grinnell College, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Kalamazoo College, Northwestern University, Pepperdine University, Syracuse University, Tulane University, University of California, Berkeley, and University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 2014, Middlebury College will recruit a Posse for Scholars majoring in science, mathematics, engineering and technology (STEM) fields.
