Academic Immersion Helps Prepare Scholars to Succeed
In July, Posse Bay Area Scholars participated in the chapter’s inaugural Academic Immersion Day. Part of Posse’s eight-month Pre-Collegiate Training (PCT) program, the immersion offers Scholars a preview of college academic life and prepares them for the transition from high school.
Nancy Bristow, a historian and professor at the University of Puget Sound, delivered a guest lecture about historical events that have shaped narratives about civil rights and policing in the United States.
“The lecture was great,” said Scholar Timothy Lu. “I’d love to take Professor Bristow’s class next year if I can.”
In addition to the lecture, Scholars enjoyed workshops on notetaking, time management, campus resources, and connecting with professors.
“I think we all learned so much during the Immersion Day,” said Scholar Franz Mangonon. “And it was a lot of fun!”
PCT also helps Scholars further develop their leadership skills, bond as a team, and learn how to facilitate cross-cultural communication. Puget Sound’s first Posse begins their first semester with the tools to be successful in the classroom and as campus leaders.
