Alumni Honored for Contributions to Posse, Community
At this year’s Power of 10 fundraiser, two Posse Boston alumni were recognized for their contributions to Posse and impact on the greater community. These impressive individuals are a testament to the extraordinary leadership potential of Posse Scholars and alumni across the country.
The Commitment to Posse Award, given to an alumna/us who has demonstrated extraordinary commitment to the goals of The Posse Foundation, was presented to Sharhea Wade (Bryn Mawr Posse 6), a credit analyst at State Street Corporation. Over the past year, Sharhea has played a critical role in the State Street Black Professional Group’s (BPG) work with Posse, helping to plan and organize several Posse-BPG events, including a professional development workshop for Posse alumni.
“Why not push to support an organization that provided me with an exceptional education, long-lasting friendships and great career advice?” Sharhea says. “As an alumna, I enjoy giving and receiving advice at the professional development events coordinated through the BPG. These annual workshops keep me connected to other alumni.”
In addition, Sharhea has recruited numerous State Street volunteers to work at Posse. She has donated to and secured donations for the Foundation and has served as a Power of 10 Alumni Host Committee member for the past two years.
Elizabeth Walczak (Hamilton Posse 1) received this year’s Community Investment Award for her outstanding leadership and extraordinary commitment to the local community. Elizabeth is currently the director of partnerships at After School & Beyond, a public-private partnership that expands learning opportunities for students in Boston. She leads the organization's efforts to improve partnership management and measurement at the school and district levels. Elizabeth was previously a policy advisor to Mayor Thomas M. Menino, working on policy initiatives and programs in the areas of education, health and human services.
“I wanted to give back to Posse, which has been an incredible support and game changer for me,” Elizabeth says. “The scholarship itself defined my college experience and accelerated my success in the workforce. Being active in the alumni network and available to support Posse's stellar Boston team is both a joy and a small way of showing appreciation.”
