Alumni Selected for Competitive Boston Teacher Residency

Posse alumni Karyn Greene and Clayton Brown were recently accepted to the 2014-15 program of the Boston Teacher Residency (BTR), a highly competitive master’s program that trains future teachers in the Boston Public Schools.

Karyn graduated from Posse Boston partner Denison University in 2012 with a degree in classics and a minor in women’s studies. She has been pursuing her master’s degree in Greek and Latin at University of Vermont, subjects she plans to teach after completing her BTR residency.

Clayton graduated from Colby College in 2013 after double majoring in American studies and African-American studies. The Posse New York alumnus has been teaching in a South Bronx middle school through City Year New York, a community service program whose members provide academic support and after-school programming to increase student success and retention.

As Boston Teacher Residents, Karyn and Clayton will spend a full academic year in the classroom with experienced mentor teachers and commit to three years of teaching in the Boston Public Schools. Several Posse alumni have been accepted to the program in previous years.

\"The Boston Teacher Residency gave me the opportunity to be a competent, qualified and prepared teacher within the Boston Public Schools,” says Hamilton College Posse alumnus Anthony Mathieu, who teaches English Language Arts and Humanities to seventh graders at his alma mater, Boston Latin Academy. “I would not be the teacher that I am today without BTR.\"
