Annual Golf Outing Raises Close to $100,000 for Posse Atlanta

On June 2, 2014, Posse Atlanta’s second annual Golf Outing at the renowned East Lake Golf Club raised close to $100,000. More than 100 golfers and guests joined sponsors such as King & Spalding, Merrill Lynch, Deloitte, UPS and The Coca-Cola Company to support Posse Atlanta.

“We could not have asked for a more perfect day for golf and a more spirited group of competitors,” says Jack Capers, the event chair and a member of the Posse Atlanta Advisory Board. “We are thrilled to share the Posse movement with so many new and returning friends.”

Players and guests enjoyed lunch, a round of golf on a legendary course, and full club amenities. Posse Atlanta Advisory Board member Michael Marino, along with the team from JPMorgan Chase & Co., took first place this year. Following a day on the links, guests attended a cocktail reception with a brief program.

Posse alumnus Marcel Baugh, a 2013 graduate of Bard College, and Posse alumna Deja Moss, a 2014 graduate of The College of Wooster, reflected on their respective Posse experiences and how Posse helped cultivate a passion for education and reform. This fall, Marcel matriculated at the University of Washington with a Posse Graduate Fellowship and Deja is a Teach For America fellow in North Carolina.

“Posse Atlanta’s Golf Outing is a great way to introduce new individuals to Posse’s work in our community,” says Zenith Houston, the director of Posse Atlanta. “After a day of friendly competition on the course, it’s nice to close our event recognizing two outstanding alumni from Atlanta. Marcel and Deja are perfect examples of the success our Scholars can achieve.”
