Piper Sandler Exec Joins Posse Houston Advisory Board

Fall 2024 | Houston

Anthony Thomas, a managing director at the investment firm Piper Sandler, has joined the Posse Houston Advisory Board. With an extensive background in energy, finance, and engineering, Anthony brings a wealth of knowledge and unique perspective to the role.

Prior to joining Piper Sandler, Anthony held senior positions at GoExpedi and Ringers Gloves. He began his career as an engineer at Schlumberger, which laid the foundation for his multifaceted approach to business and problem-solving.

Anthony holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. His diverse career across engineering, corporate strategy and investment has equipped him with the kind of cross-disciplinary insights that make him a tremendous asset to the Advisory Board.

I want to help young people best position themselves for opportunity.

Anthony’s involvement with Posse Houston began through his connection with James P. Baker, a fellow member of the Advisory Board and colleague at Piper Sandler. After learning about Posse’s efforts to support and empower young people, Anthony was inspired to get involved. He saw an opportunity to use his broad professional experience to make a meaningful impact and wanted to help guide and mentor the next generation of leaders. This alignment with Posse’s mission motivated him to join the advisory board and contribute to its continued success.

“I’m most excited for the opportunity to help talented young people reach their full potential,” Anthony says. “I see myself in many of the Posse Scholars.”

Looking ahead, Anthony is especially enthusiastic about his involvement with Posse Scholars. His passion for mentorship and his dedication to empowering young people drives his commitment to the Advisory Board.

“Career success stems from a combination of academic success, awareness of opportunities, and a bit of luck. During my time in financial services, I’ve seen many capable candidates miss out on opportunities because they were unaware of how to pursue them or learned of their existence too late. I want to help young people position themselves for the opportunity.”
