Babson Alumna Develops Organic Personal Care Line

Fall 2014 | New York

As a teenager, Renee Edwards knew Babson College by its reputation for successfully preparing its students to be entrepreneurs. When she discovered it was a Posse partner institution, all the pieces fell into place. She graduated magna cum laude as a Babson Posse Scholar in 2013 with a degree in business management and a concentration in environmental sustainability, both of which she’s utilizing to develop Never Underestimate Simple, a line of non-toxic organic personal care products.

NUS is centered around the idea that “simple elements can have a really extraordinary impact.” As an undergraduate Renee studied, researched and traveled in South Africa, Rwanda, Ghana and Costa Rica to learn more about natural healing methods and environmental sustainability. While at Ghana’s School of International Training, she studied natural herbs and healers of Ghana’s northern region and in Costa Rica she worked on several sustainability projects at VerdEnergica, an organic permaculture farm.

“My Babson experience was most impacted by my travel abroad,” says Renee, whose experiences abroad contributed ideas and influences for NUS.

Renee is currently a scholar at Watson University in Boulder, Colorado, where she is focused on developing and expanding her business with mentorship and coursework targeted to innovators, leaders and entrepreneurs. Prior to moving to Boulder, members of Renee's Posse helped design the NUS logo, initiate brand development and market her products.

“My Posse has been instrumental in this transition,” says Renee.
