Board Members Tim, Jeff Ubben Increase Total Giving to $50 Million
In a significant gesture of trust and belief in an organization with which they have been deeply involved, longstanding Posse board members Tim and Jeff Ubben pledged to increase their total giving to $50 million in honor of The Posse Foundation’s 25th anniversary.
“The gift from the Ubbens marks a significant moment in Posse’s development, as we prepare to open in our 10th city and look to support 5,000 students a year in the pipeline nationally,” says Posse President and Founder Deborah Bial. “These are two individuals whose shared philanthropic vision is transforming individual lives and helping to push our institutions and society at large closer to the ideals of equity and inclusion.”
In 2013 alone, the father and son philanthropists committed a combined $14 million to the Foundation, bringing their total donations to Posse to $25 million each. The gift will more than double the size of Posse's endowment and help guarantee Posse's future for many years to come.
Tim Ubben is the founder of Lincoln Capital Management, a Chicago-based investment firm that had more than $50 billion in assets under management when he retired as chairman in 1999. Tim earned his bachelor’s from DePauw University in 1958 and served as its board chair from 1998 to 2001. He also holds an M.B.A. from Northwestern University.
Tim joined Posse’s national board of directors in 2000 and spearheaded the opening of the Chicago chapter that same year, becoming Posse Chicago’s founding board chair. His expert guidance over the years has helped position Posse as a leader among college access and youth leadership development programs.
Jeff Ubben is the founder, CEO and CIO of ValueAct Capital, a leading investment firm with offices in San Francisco and Boston. ValueAct Capital manages more than $14 billion on behalf of institutional and individual investors.
Jeff holds a B.A. from Duke University and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University. He joined the Posse board in 2005 and, in 2008, became Posse’s national board chair. Under his leadership, Posse has experienced extraordinary growth—the opening of three new chapters, the launch of specialized initiatives to serve U.S. veterans and students majoring in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) fields, and the addition of 41 college and university partnerships. Equally important, Jeff has supported successful fundraising initiatives to keep pace with Posse’s budget as it serves a growing number of students annually.
