Boston Scholars Excel in Internship Positions

Fall 2013 | Boston

This year, nearly 100 Scholars secured summer internships through the Posse Boston Career Program. Participating Scholars spent their summers at prestigious companies and organizations, gaining mentorship and critical experience in fields such as education, finance, law, marketing and scientific research.

“Through my internship, I met, networked and collaborated with talented artists and leaders,” says Mike Arroyo, a senior at Hamilton College who interned at advertising firm Hill Holiday. “I received hands-on experience of what giving a real pitch would be like in front of a panel of judges.”

The Career Program also provides one-on-one career counseling and workshops for Scholars and alumni as they build their professional skills and networks.

“In addition to learning how to conduct in-depth research analysis, I learned how to better develop my time management skills, expand my professional network, and improve my professional communication skills,” says Yasser El Hamounmi, a junior at Union college who interned as a junior analyst at Bank of America.

The Career Program gives Scholars the tools and opportunities they need to transition from being leaders on college campuses to leaders in the workforce. It is through these internship experiences that Scholars are able to explore their interests while making meaningful contributions at their companies or organizations.

“As an algebra teacher for rising 7th graders at Breakthrough Collaborative, I developed daily lesson plans, created worksheets and quizzes, and implemented fun games that involved math concepts," says Georgina Dominique, a sophomore at Bryn Mawr College. "I was so proud to display all of my students' final projects at the end of the summer celebration for their families and friends to see.”

“My favorite part of my internship was being able to work with a mature group of people,” says Angela Trinh, a sophomore at Denison University who interned for Citizen Schools. “Everyone was very dedicated and enthusiastic about their jobs. I felt people's passion and encouragement for growth.”
