Bucknell Alum Earns Sustainability Degree Abroad, Joins Deloitte

Winter 2022 | D.C.

Bucknell University alumna Asha Harvey began a new chapter this fall as a senior consultant in account strategy at the Deloitte Greenhouse. She comes to the role with an MSc in Sustainable Business and Innovation from Utrecht University in the Netherlands. Asha joins a growing community of Posse alumni taking their skills to Deloitte.

Describing her upbringing, Asha calls herself a “child of the world,” with parents originally from the United Kingdom and Bermuda. Her family immigrated to Washington, D.C., when Asha was a child. As a Posse Scholar at Bucknell, Asha studied international relations and Spanish and spent a year abroad in Spain and Argentina. After graduation, she spent time in Cambodia before moving to the Netherlands for her master’s.

“Being in Posse really shaped my career from the onset—the network I had access to, and the support of a writing coach and mentor.”

“As I get older, I have a new appreciation for everything Posse does,” Asha says. “Being in Posse really shaped my career from the onset—the network I had access to, and the support of a writing coach and mentor.”

After concluding her graduate study with an unexpected, pandemic-related return to the U.S., Asha knew the transition to full-time work after school would be a challenge. She turned to her Posse mentor from Bucknell, Marilyn, who advised her to leverage support wherever others were willing to give it.

“So many people will bend over backwards to help you when you are a Posse Scholar,” Asha says she realized.

It is with this support in mind that she ultimately joined Deloitte, a top supporter of Posse for over 10 years, including as a Career Program partner. Asha now explains that the robust community of Posse alumni was a critical factor in accepting her new role, in which she uses human-centered design to help business leaders think creatively about their business development, considering impact on both people and the planet.

Asha is excited to use creative metaphors to encourage teams to problem-solve better and think differently and expects to support clients and solve problems utilizing methods that she honed through her time as a Posse Scholar. She adds that the conversation facilitation and leadership she practiced in Posse programs, including during the Dynamic Assessment Process and at PossePlus Retreats, will remain valuable skills throughout her future career.
