Bucknell Scholar Provides Programming, Guidance for Incoming Freshmen

Bucknell University Posse Scholar Jonathan “Chief” Coleman is only a sophomore and he’s already strongly committed to ensuring that the campus is welcoming to all individuals. The international relations major led the university’s summer outdoor leadership program, “BuckWild”, Bucknell’s pre-orientation program that acclimates incoming freshmen to collegiate life with outdoor activities.

At BuckWild, Jonathan helped students develop their leadership skills and begin to build their peer networks for on-campus support.

“My grandfather always told me to be the change I want to see in the world,” said Chief. “When I saw there were ways I could contribute to Bucknell’s culture, I felt the need to be involved to make sure that all students feel welcome at Bucknell.”

In addition to his accomplishments through the BuckWild program, Chief works in the Office of Admissions as a Tour Guide Coordinator. He also serves as a mentor through the Together Everyone Achieves More (T.E.A.M.) peer mentoring program that helps students from underrepresented backgrounds connect with one another. Additionally, Chief plays on Bucknell’s water polo team, which is ranked as a Top Ten school in Division I.
