Campus Liaisons Attend Annual Posse Conference

In June, The Posse Foundation welcomed representatives from its college and university partners to the annual Liaison Conference in New York City. Hosted by Bank of America, the conference featured a keynote address about the need for equity in education by Dr. Pedro Noguera, the Peter L. Agnew professor of education at New York University. In addition, the conference focused on the important role faculty mentors play in supporting Scholars on campus.

Campus liaisons, key members of an institution’s administration, work closely with Posse to select Scholars during Posse’s Dynamic Assessment Process, build a supportive Posse community on campus, and help choose faculty members to serve as mentors to each incoming Posse.

“Our liaisons are instrumental in identifying and supporting Posse mentors,” says Matthew Fasciano, Posse’s chief operating officer. “It was important to us to really highlight how mentors can influence a Scholar’s undergraduate experience, and to demonstrate how much the mentors and the larger campus community gain from the experience as well.”

The Posse Institute, the research division of the Foundation, presented its key findings from surveying Scholars and mentors about the impact of Posse’s mentoring program. The results are highlighted in The Posse Mentor: Supporting Future Leaders, a report which is available for download from Posse’s website (www.possefoundation.org/posseinstitute).
