Capital Group Invests $1.2 Million in Scholars

Fall 2016

Capital Group, a global investment company that manages more than $1 trillion in assets, has been a powerful partner and major donor to The Posse Foundation since 1998. The company and its employees together have contributed more than $1.2 million to Posse.

“We at the Capital Group have a core belief that we should give back to the communities in which we do business,” says Capital World Investors Partner Alan Berro. “I could not think of a better way than through the work of The Posse Foundation. Not only do they provide educational opportunities in the communities that we serve, but they also generate a pool of future employees for our company.”

Alan Berro serves on Posse’s national board and Jim Evans, a vice president for Capital Group, and David Riley, a senior vice president for Capital Research Global Investors, provide strong support on the advisory boards in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., respectively.

“The Posse Foundation-Capital Group partnership is all about building community—a space where everyone comes together to make things better,” says Jim Evans. “Capital Group is committed to helping students achieve their dreams. Our associates appreciate the chance to partner with and engage with Posse staff, volunteers and Scholars.”

In addition to board leadership, Capital Group invests in the success of Posse Scholars with event support, career opportunities and program volunteers. A number of Posse alumni have been hired for full-time positions with the company. In Los Angeles, where the company is headquartered, Capital Group donates space every year for Posse’s Dynamic Assessment Process (DAP), the first-stage of Scholar selection. Jim, who is also a Posse career coach, volunteers during DAP and recruits other senior staff to participate.

“Capital Group’s long-term, national commitment to and investment in Posse has further opened the doors of opportunity to Posse Scholars and alumni,” says Posse President and Founder Deborah Bial. “We are so happy to have Alan Berro on the national board and real engagement from devoted Capital professionals on so many of our chapter advisory boards.”
