Career Partners, Alumni, Volunteers Gather for Atlanta Career Day

Spring 2020 | Atlanta

WarnerMedia, a Posse Career Program partner, hosted Posse Atlanta’s Winter Career Day this past January. It was WarnerMedia’s second consecutive year hosting and providing volunteers for the annual conference, thanks in part to Posse Atlanta Advisory Board member Rick Dascher, the vice president of Turner Studios creative services.

Several Posse Career Program partners provided volunteers for the day’s programs, including Chick-fil-A, Deloitte, Honeywell, How Big Is Your Dream?!, PwC, Travelers and Willis Towers Watson. Nearly 100 Scholars attended and interacted with company representatives during six “career exploration” panels that spanned the industries of law and government, STEM, education and nonprofits, arts and media, and business and finance. Several Posse Atlanta Advisory Board members served as panelists and speakers during the event.

Posse Atlanta alumni were also a significant presence at Winter Career Day. Some graduates attended sessions, while others served as panelists or moderators, including Bard College’s Alexis Roe, Brandeis University’s Vanessa Alamo and Texas A&M University’s Jose Fragoso.

Cox Enterprises Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer Richard Cox provided the keynote address, which was followed by a fireside chat with Steve Mensch, the president and general manager of studio operations at Tyler Perry Studios. Posse Atlanta Advisory Board member Marietta Davis, the vice president of communications at IBM, received a warm reception from Scholars during her lunch address.

One breakout session led by professionals from Travelers and How Big Is Your Dream?! was titled “Careers You Didn’t Know Your Major Is Perfect For.” Scholars heard from executives who explained how acquired skills can be just as valuable as the type of degree you earn. The speakers challenged attendees to think outside the box and identify how their talents might transfer across industries.

The day concluded with a speed networking session during which Career Program partners spoke to Scholars about internships and career opportunities.
