College Awards Reach $1.1 Billion in Posse Scholarships
With the admission of the Class of 2021, Posse’s partner institutions have awarded $1.1 billion in scholarships to Posse Scholars since the organization’s founding in 1989.
The first cohort of Scholars set off for Vanderbilt University from New York City 28 years ago. Since then, Posse has expanded to 10 cities nationwide and has sent close to 8,000 students to college on full-tuition, four-year scholarships. This year alone, 740 Scholars received the Posse Scholarship.
“Crossing the billion dollar mark in scholarships is a huge milestone for us,” says Posse President and Founder Deborah Bial. “Every single scholarship dollar is provided by our partner colleges and universities. The fact that they have invested so much is a testament to their commitment to diversity and the tremendous value Posse Scholars bring to their campuses.”
Recent years have seen significant new expansions to the program, including the establishment of STEM and Veterans initiatives in 2006 and 2012, respectively, and in 2015 the launch of operations in the Bay Area, Posse’s 10th site.
Partner colleges and universities are critical to advancing Posse’s mission. Currently, 57 top institutions of higher education are collaborating with Posse to find and prepare the next generation of leaders.
