First Posses at Texas A&M, Villanova Achieve Milestones

Posse New Orleans is celebrating two groundbreaking milestones as our Scholars blaze trails at Villanova University and Texas A&M University. This spring, Villanova’s inaugural Posse cohort became the first from New Orleans to graduate from the prestigious university, achieving an impressive 100% graduation rate. At the same time, Texas A&M’s first Posse cohort completed their first year, laying a strong foundation for themselves and the future cohorts to come.

The pioneering Posse at Villanova embarked on their academic journey under extraordinary circumstances. Starting their college experience during the pandemic, they faced unprecedented challenges. Yet, their perseverance and dedication have led to remarkable successes. Three Scholars graduated with academic honors, and seven made the Dean’s List in their final semester.

The culmination of their hard work was celebrated with the first-ever Posse graduation celebration in May, a joyous event marking their outstanding achievements.

The Texas A&M Posse Scholars also ended the year with much to celebrate. The inaugural cohort at the flagship institution not only excelled academically but also took on leadership roles to support future Posse members. Their commitment to mentoring and welcoming the next group of Posse New Orleans Scholars this fall exemplifies the spirit of Posse Love.

“These two Posses represent the heart of what Posse New Orleans strives to achieve—empowering young leaders to overcome obstacles, excel academically, and create a lasting, positive impact on their campuses and in the workforce,” says Sherdren Burnside, the director of Posse New Orleans.
