Miami Alumna to Attend Carnegie Mellon
Among the first college graduates from Posse Miami, Viviana Mauri received her bachelor’s degree in sociology from Mount Holyoke College with a double-minor in film studies and media & public discourse. This fall, she will matriculate at Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College to begin a master’s program in entertainment industry management.
“I am looking forward to the networking, career development and the real-life experience that this graduate school program offers,” says Viviana. “They really immerse you in the field.”
Viviana spent her undergraduate years preparing for a career in television and film production. She directed and hosted her own radio show on campus for four years with a fellow Posse Scholar, and for two summers she was an intern at Univisión, a major Spanish language broadcast television network in Miami. She also interned with Lifetime Movies in Los Angeles, California.
“The Lifetime internship was a life-changing experience for me,” says Viviana. “It was the first time I got to see movies being made, observe the process, read scripts, visit a movie set, and really be involved in all of the departments.”
Viviana’s achievements and passion to inspire young women through film earned her recognition from the Weisman Center of Leadership, an on-campus organization focused on leadership and training for Mount Holyoke College students. She was selected to introduce award-winning actress America Ferrera at a campus event.
“Since childhood, entertainment, films especially, has been my passion,” says Viviana. “Films have been a source of escapism and inspiration. In my work, I hope to provide that same feeling of possibility for the younger generation, especially young girls."
