New Vanderbilt Graduate Recognized as Outstanding Senior
Recent Vanderbilt University Posse graduate Christine Lim was recognized as a Top 20 Outstanding Senior for demonstrating leadership, academic excellence and for making a positive contribution to the campus.
Throughout her four years at Vanderbilt, Christine has been passionate about improving her peers’ student-life experience. She joined student government her freshman year as a member of the campus life committee and subsequently became the chair for the next three years.
“I hope the systems I put in place will inspire others who come after me.”
“I served as a bridge between administrators and students,” says Christine. One of her priorities was to add Uber, the ridesharing service, as an option to their campus card.
“A lot of our school programs require off-campus work or internships,” she says. “The addition of Uber allows students more flexibility to get around Nashville.”
She worked with business services on campus and Uber International to help initiate the implementation. Vanderbilt became the first university in the country to adopt the program and several others have now followed suit.
In addition to her work in student government, Christine was a founding member of the Peer Advocates Executive Board of FirstVU, an organization on campus that supports, celebrates and empowers first-generation students at Vanderbilt.
“There were so many questions I had my first year, she says. “I tried to find a first-generation community on campus, but it didn’t exist.”
Inspired by her Posse experience, Christine worked to create a mentorship program that matched first-generation freshmen with upperclassmen to help the former navigate campus.
Christine has also been a resident advisor and served on multiple committees during her time at Vanderbilt. She graduated this spring as a human and organization development major, and has recently started a position at Bloomberg on the Financial Product Sales & Analytics team.
“Thanks to Posse, I’ve been successful as a first-generation student,” she says. “I hope the systems I put in place will inspire others who come after me.”
