Notre Dame Scholar Interns at PwC
This past summer, University of Notre Dame Scholar Yarely Rubio Gonzalez interned at PricewaterhouseCoopers in its Houston office. Through her PwC experience, Yarely developed her career skills as a future business professional, engaged socially through networking events, and strengthened her desire to become a public accountant. PwC is recognized as the second-largest professional services network in the world and is considered one of the Big Four accounting firms, along with Deloitte, EY, and KPMG.
“PwC offered me a highly sought-after opportunity to understand how professional service firms work and what it takes to be a leader within one at the highest levels.”
Posse and Notre Dame helped train me for the professional world.
The internship not only allowed her to understand what a career as a public accountant entails, but also encouraged her to continue improving her business skills. In practice, she was challenged to write business reports, work in different computer programs, engage in independent and team projects with presentation components, work with a pro bono client, network with peers and superiors, and connect with managers and partners at the firm as mentors.
“Posse and Notre Dame helped train me for the professional world,” Yarely says. “Through my college experience I have learned how best to professionally and socially engage with other changemakers.”
Currently a student at Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business, Yarely is majoring in accountancy with a minor in business & the common good. This fall semester, she is studying abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark, with a focus on sustainability in food production and consumption.
On campus, Yarely engages with the Institute for Social Concerns through her minor in poverty studies and as a recipient of the McNeill Common Good Fellowship. Through the fellowship, she academically and experientially explores social justice issues on both local and broader scales.
Additionally, her passion for writing is expressed through her role as a peer tutor at The Writing Center. Outside of academics, Yarely enjoys volunteering with local South Bend organizations and serving at the Basilica.
“My Posse has helped keep me grounded and focused on my goals while also giving me a social outlet. I am so grateful to have them on campus.”
