Pepperdine Alumna Begins Career at NBCUniversal

Maria Chavez Mendoza, a 2022 Posse graduate, began her journey with NBCUniversal as an intern while studying marketing and communications at Pepperdine University. Today, she continues her work at NBCUniversal as a full-time marketplace operations associate.

Maria always knew she had a passion for elevating brands through market strategy but did not initially know her niche. She first worked at NBCUniversal as a rising senior, interning over the summer for the creative partnerships team. Her internship involved designing and implementing ad campaigns for live events such as the New York Fashion Week, the Met Gala, and BravoCon.

“It all started with Posse.”

“When you are an intern, you get to work with individuals from various project teams,” Maria says, pointing out that the wide range of experiences led to new opportunities. One such project connected her to the director of operations who eventually introduced her to her passion field: partnerships.

Maria’s internship continued into her fall semester with the commerce partnerships team.

“I loved working on partnerships because I had the opportunity to work directly with clients and online brands, pitching different marketing campaigns,” she recalls.

The e-commerce space allowed Maria to develop meaningful relationships and have conversations with the creative minds behind products and brands.

She hopes to continue growing in her e-commerce knowledge and business acumen to not only thrive at NBCUniversal, but also in her own entrepreneurial pursuits.

Maria is proud to be part of an innovative company that “pushes the bounds of the metaverse.”

“So many pieces have been placed in a perfect manner to get me to where I am today,” Maria says. She credits part of her success and journey thus far to her Scholar experience: “It all started with Posse.”
