Posse Boston Honors Carolyn and Peter S. Lynch, Raises over $220K at Power of 10 Event
In October, over 260 supporters, friends and alumni came together for Posse Boston’s fourth annual Power of 10 fundraiser. Held at the elegant State Room, with stunning views of the Boston Waterfront, the event raised more than $220,000 and recognized Carolyn and Peter S. Lynch of the Lynch Foundation for their philanthropic leadership and commitment to educational access. Old Mutual Asset Management generously funded Power of 10 as lead sponsor, which it has done since the event’s inception.
The Lynch Foundation was one of Posse Boston’s first funders when the site opened in 1999 and has been a dedicated supporter ever since. Carolyn serves as the Foundation’s president and chief executive officer, and Peter serves as its treasurer. In addition to his Foundation role, Peter is vice chairman of Fidelity Management & Research Company and an advisory board member of the Fidelity Funds.
Posse National Alumni Advisory Council members Hector Acevedo and Christopher Moore, who presented the award to Carolyn and Peter, called them “an inspiration to all Posse Scholars and alumni.”
“The bonds that you build in your Posses during your college education will stay with you the rest of your life,” said Carolyn, addressing the alumni. “I think the bonds that you make at the Posse events in Boston, when you get to meet other members who have been through some of the same situations, difficulties and triumphs, will be valuable and fulfilling and will help you as an individual to reach your highest potential.”
During the evening, new Posse graduates were welcomed into the alumni community, and two outstanding alumni were recognized. Sharhea Wade (Bryn Mawr Posse 6), an analyst at State Street Corporation, was presented with the Commitment to Posse Award for her extraordinary dedication to the program. The Community Investment award went to Elizabeth Walczak (Hamilton Posse 1), the director of partnerships at Boston Afterschool and Beyond, an organization that works to expand and enhance learning opportunities for students in Boston.
Jackney Prioly (Bryn Mawr Posse 2) spoke powerfully about Posse’s influence.
“Like many Posse Scholars, I had no doubt I was going to college. … If I was going to change the world, college was a necessary next step,” said Jackney. “But also like many Scholars, I wasn’t sure how I would get there or how I would pay for it or even that there was this prestigious college named Bryn Mawr. And like many Scholars, I had no idea that this Posse experience would change my life.”
