Posse Chicago Celebrates 104 New Scholars

Summer 2024 | Chicago

Posse Chicago welcomed 104 new Posse Scholars at this year’s Awards Ceremony, presenting over $25 million in full-tuition leadership scholarships by Connecticut College, Cornell University, DePauw University, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Middlebury College, Oberlin College, Pomona College, Trinity College, University of Wisconsin-Madison and Whitman College.

The Awards Ceremony was hosted on January 3rd and 4th at the Chicago History Museum. Scholars were celebrated and given words of encouragement by Posse staff, representatives from college and university partners, local educators and leaders, and families and friends.

The new Scholars will matriculate this fall, having been selected for their extraordinary academic and leadership potential from a pool of more than 2,400 nominees. This year’s class of selected Scholars includes the inaugural cohort of Scholars for Whitman College.

“Beyond the depths of their extraordinary academics, during a campus visit a member of their CARE Team described Whitman College as a ‘space where a student can be who they are and learn how to be themselves wherever they go in the world,’" says Posse Chicago Director Jacare Thomas. "Posse Chicago is proud to have Whitman amongst our partner schools to recruit the next generation of leaders.”

Posse recruits, trains and supports deserving young leaders who may be missed by traditional college admissions processes. The newest cohorts of Posse Scholars have since participated in Pre-Collegiate Training (PCT), an eight-month program that includes weekly Posse meetings, leadership development, team-building workshops, and academic preparation. PCT ensures that Posse Scholars arrive on campus ready for academic and student life, setting them up for future success.
