Posse Chicago Honors Patricia Brown Holmes, Raises More Than $400K

Winter 2015 | Chicago

In October 2014, more than 300 guests gathered for Posse Chicago’s ninth annual Power of 10 fundraising event at the Chicago Cultural Center, raising more than $400,000. The signature Posse event honored Patricia Brown Holmes, a partner at national general practice law firm Schiff Hardin, for her commitment to diversity in education and the workforce.

A trial attorney whose practice focuses on white-collar criminal investigations, Patricia is also a former federal, state and local prosecutor and state court judge. She co-chairs Schiff Hardin’s diversity committee and serves as the chair of Just the Beginning Foundation, an organization “dedicated to developing educational programs to inspire and foster careers in the law among students of color and from other underrepresented groups, from middle school through law school.”

“Through her commitment to the advancement of young people from diverse backgrounds, her remarkable achievements within the legal profession, and her leadership in the education field, Patricia demonstrates Posse’s values through action,” says Posse Chicago Director Asaf Bar-Tura. “We could not be more proud to honor her.”

The event program also highlighted the strength, perseverance and power of a Posse of 10 students and included remarks by Posse alumna S.L. (Sharunda LaBrandal) Owens, an associate in the commercial litigation practice group at Quarles & Brady LLP. S.L. graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2008, was a Gilman and Fulbright Scholar, and received her J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2014.

S.L., who highlighted the myriad ways Posse prepares its Scholars to be confident leaders on campus and in the workforce, was one of more than 60 Posse alumni in attendance. Alumni are committed to giving back to Posse and are among the organization’s strongest supporters.

The event was an overwhelming success thanks to the leadership of the event committee, co-chaired by Posse Chicago Advisory Board members Hon. Amy J. St. Eve and Jonathan “Jack” Thayer.
