Posse D.C. Honors College Graduates, Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Posse D.C. welcomed its 2014 graduates to the Posse Alumni Network on June 5 at the District Architecture Center in Washington, D.C. The recent graduates—representing all six of Posse D.C.’s partner institutions—joined current Scholars, family and fellow alumni in celebrating Posse D.C.’s 10th anniversary.

Members of the 2014 graduating class will enter the workforce at companies and organizations including Deloitte, Teach For America, Air Products and Chemicals, and PwC. Additionally, many Scholars will begin highly regarded graduate programs at the University of Pennsylvania, Johns Hopkins University, Wake Forest University, University of Maryland and University of Wisconsin-Madison. They join a powerful national alumni network of more than 2,200 members who are shaping the future and establishing themselves as the next generation of leaders.

“Because of you, Posse continues to play an important role in helping to set our next generation up for success as leaders in the workforce,” said Posse D.C. Director Tamara Wilds Lawson. “The future looks bright knowing you will be stewarding it.”

Longstanding Posse D.C. Advisory Board member Camille Riggs Mosley, with Learning and Performance at Sodexo, issued a charge to the new graduates in their future endeavors.

“Remember that the Posse community doesn’t end in D.C.—as the alumni in the room from other cities will attest, you will find fellow graduates across the country and around the world” said Camille. “Let the engagement of those here tonight be a model for you. Stay involved and stay active, and you will never be without your Posse.”

In commemorating Posse D.C.’s 10th anniversary, Bucknell University Posse alumnus Odinakachi Anyanwu, the site’s first director Marcy Mistrett, and founding Advisory Board member Bonnie Cohen were acknowledged for their early and ongoing contributions to the Posse Program.

Posse D.C. Advisory Board Chair Donella Brockington, the vice president for Americas and local government at Xerox State & Local Solutions, spoke about the dynamic impact Posse has made on the local community over the past decade.

“Over the last 10 years, during which this area has seen major demographic shifts, Posse D.C. has remained relevant and steadfast in our mission to find and support talented and deserving young leaders for our program,” said Donella.
