Posse D.C. Honors FedEx Exec, Breaks Fundraising Record

On October 10, Posse D.C. hosted its fifth annual Power of 10 event at The Hamilton Live in Washington, D.C. With more than 200 guests from D.C.’s corporate, civic, education and philanthropic communities, the event raised over $165,000, breaking records in attendance and fundraising.

This year’s Power of 10 celebrated diversity and equity in education and honored Gina Adams, FedEx’s senior vice president of government affairs, for her work in the D.C. community.

“Mrs. Adams embodies the spirit of excellence we encourage our Scholars to aspire to and maintain throughout their time in college and beyond,” said Posse D.C. Director Tamara Wilds Lawson. “We were thrilled to honor Gina both for her impact as a leader in the corporate world and her commitment to local youth and education.”

“Since its inception, The Posse Foundation has supported the notion that quality educational opportunities are a birthright for all children, regardless of race, ethnicity or socio-economic status,” said Gina, a native Washingtonian and graduate of Ballou High School, a Posse nominating school. “This innovative approach has inspired a generation of diverse and energetic young leaders with even more to come.”

During the event, Pamela Brown, an anchor with ABC7, moderated an engaging discussion with three Posse alumni—Odinakachi Anyanwu (Bucknell Posse 1, D.C.), LaMika Bacon (Lafayette Posse 1, D.C.) and Edgar Ndjatou (Brandeis Posse 5, New York)—who spoke about the program’s impact on their lives.

A silent auction made possible by Hilton Worldwide generated excited bidding for a five-night stay at a Hilton hotel anywhere in the world. One lucky guest took home the generous prize and proceeds from the auction benefit Posse’s programming for current and future Scholars.
