Posse Houston Scholars Secure Judicial Internships, Leadership Awards
This summer, Posse Houston connected three current Scholars to prestigious internships with judges in the Greater Houston Area. The internships represent a unique opportunity for Scholars to gain a wealth of information and exposure to the legal field.
The Scholars awarded judicial internships this summer were Johanna Velazquez (Colby College), Anna De la Cuesta (Bryn Mawr College), and Veronice Mellado (Bryn Mawr College).
Harris Civil Court Judges served as hosts for the Scholars, including Judge Jeralynn Manor, Judge Beau Miller, Judge Lauren Reeder and Judge Dawn Rogers.
“Posse Houston is so proud to be partnering with the Harris County Courts this summer.”

While many judicial internships are unpaid, all three Scholars received Posse Summer Leadership Award (PSLA) funding, which is designed to relieve the financial obstacles associated with participating in an unpaid internship.
“Posse Houston is so proud to be partnering with the Harris County Courts this summer,” says Posse Houston Director Zakiya Thomas. “We have three incredible Scholars from Bryn Mawr and Colby who are passionate about litigation and justice reform that will be rotating between four Honorable Judges throughout their internship. This is a huge step towards more equitable access to internship opportunities for the law and government industries.”
Shadowing judges across the Greater Houston Area is a rare opportunity that provides Scholars with real-world application of academic knowledge, preparing them for a lifetime of exploration in the field. Posse Houston is excited to launch the first summer of what will hopefully be a long-term internship program.
