Posse New York Welcomes 133 Extraordinary New Scholars
Harlem’s historic Apollo Theater in New York City, which has showcased some of the most well-known entertainers of the past 60 years as well as up and coming artists, lent its famous stage for the 2015 Posse New York Awards Ceremony. More than 130 new Scholars celebrated winning Posse Scholarships worth more than $23 million with their families and friends, representatives from Posse partner colleges and universities, donors, Posse board and staff members and volunteers.
“This is Posse New York’s capstone event of the year,” says Posse New York Director Dena Wallerson. “To have a legendary, historically relevant venue as the setting was special. Particularly since many of the students were thrilled that they were in such a unique place.”
After being formally welcomed as Scholars by their respective colleges and universities, new Scholars were given a chance to speak during the open mic portion of the evening. They thanked all those who helped them on their path to Posse including family members, school administrators and their new colleges and universities as well.
In the fall, after completing eight months of Pre-Collegiate Training, new Scholars will matriculate at Babson College, Brandeis University, DePauw University, Dickinson College, Franking & Marshall College, Lafayette College, Lawrence University, Middlebury College, Smith College, Trinity College, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Vanderbilt University and Wheaton College.
