​Pre-Med Scholar Attends Howard U. Summer Program

Theodore Michaud, a second-year STEM Scholar at Pomona College, was selected for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Summer Medical and Dental Education Program at Howard University. The six-week academic enrichment program was the perfect fit for a pre-med student who plans to become a pediatric hematology oncologist.

"I met bright students from all across the country, connected with inspiring professionals and stood among a team of exceptional doctors, residents, and medical students,” says Theodore. “The program reinforced the incredible capacity a doctor has to positively impact every patient."

While fulfilling his pre-med requirements, Theodore is pursuing a major in sociology. He is a founding member of the Pomona College Black Students Union, a mentor in the Office of Black Student Affairs, and an active member of the Pomona-Pitzer Christian Fellowship. Theodore also serves in the Young Men’s Circle, a committee of Pomona’s Building Leaders on Campus organization, which conducts outreach to local high schools to encourage boys of color to embody positive values and to reach for higher education.

“As an African-American male attending an elite institution, I know that I can use my experiences to empower others,” Theodore says. “As a doctor, I will advocate for underserved communities who are subjected to systemic healthcare disparities.”
