Scholar Addresses Class at Brandeis Commencement

Fall 2023 | New York

Nathalie Vieux-Gresham, a recent graduate of Brandeis University, marked the end of her four-year journey as the Undergraduate Student Address speaker at Brandeis University’s 2023 Commencement Ceremony.

In her address, Nathalie discussed a freshman Brandeis tradition named “Light the Night,” which culminates in students writing a one-word affirmation on an electronic candle. For Nathalie, that word was “confidence.”

“Receiving the Posse Foundation leadership scholarship gave me confidence in my ability to succeed in my studies at Brandeis,” says Nathalie in her address. “Shout out to my Posse. I’m honored to have experienced firsthand how many of us strive to get as involved as possible on campus and make a difference in the Brandeis community and beyond.”

“Receiving the Posse scholarship gave me confidence in my ability to succeed in my studies."

During college, Nathalie received numerous awards for her research and dedication to her community. As a Roosevelt Fellow at Brandeis, she served as a peer academic advisor for freshmen and transfer students, helping to support their academic transition and social acclimation. In 2022, Nathalie was selected for the Linda Heller Kamm ’61 Prize at Brandeis for her dedication to social justice and improving her campus community.

Brandeis started the search for the 2023 senior speaker in the fall 2022 semester. When Nathalie was selected, she was overjoyed.

"I was truly honored to represent my class at the commencement this year," she said. "I hope that the speech offered the class of 2023 a chance to reflect on their memories and lessons from their time at Brandeis and carry them into the world beyond campus."

Nathalie graduated with a combined Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Neuroscience and hopes to continue her education by attending medical school starting fall 2025. Nathalie is currently working as a Clinical Research Coordinator at Mount Sinai’s Tisch Cancer Institute.
