Scholars Explore Atlanta’s Winter Career Day

Spring 2018 | Atlanta

Posse Atlanta Winter Career Day was hosted and sponsored by SunTrust Bank last January in downtown Atlanta. Career Program partners Bank of America, Chick-fil-A, Deloitte, PwC, Travelers, and Turner contributed volunteers for mock interview sessions, career exploration panel discussions and workshops.

WSB-TV Channel 2 Action News Anchor Jovita Moore, a new Posse Atlanta Advisory Board member, officially launched the day’s events by delivering an inspiring keynote address. The recruiting team from Turner then led the Interviewing Skills & Navigating Multiple Offers session.

Mock interviews for Scholars were held across the conference center. Attendees then heard career exploration discussions moderated by fellow Posse Scholars and alumni. The day concluded with professional development workshops, and a personal finance session led by SunTrust Bank. Posse Atlanta Advisory Board Chair Jeff Abbott of Infor and board member Ollie McCoy of Deloitte were among the panelists for the business and finance career breakout. Executives from the Four Seasons Hotel Atlanta and Mercedes-Benz USA spoke at a session on maximizing mentorship.

Posse alumni were highly visible throughout the day, both as participants, and as panelists and moderators for career exploration panels. Participating alumni include: Vanessa Alamo (Brandeis), Divine Butts (Syracuse), Joshua Mosby (Boston University), Harvin Vallabhaneni (Boston University), Jonea Weekley (Boston University), and Sherod Haynes, a Posse Chicago alumnus.

On-campus Scholars also participated as moderators, including: Emma Peterson (Syracuse), Eniyah Willingham (Bard), Juwan Thompson (Syracuse), Hangil Ryu (Brandeis), and Luis Otero-Bravo (George Washington University). The event could not have been a success without the nearly 100 volunteers from the advisory board, leadership council, Career Program partners, and Posse Scholar attendees.
