Atlanta Posse Scholars Gather for Winter Career Day
On January 5th, close to 100 Atlanta-area Posse Scholars and alumni gathered at Microsoft’s Atlantic Station office for Winter Career Day. The annual event connects Posse’s Career Program partners with students and graduates for a day of professional development workshops, panel discussions, and unique networking opportunities.
The day began with an engaging alumni panel featuring College of Wooster alum Brenda Khor, a senior manager for college and university marketing at the Coca-Cola Company, Brandeis University alum and Google Program Manager Keturah Walker, Bard College alum and Atlanta Music Project Director Miriam Huppert, and Texas A&M alum Samuel Austin Evans, the co-founder of DidYouCatchIt. The session offered participants invaluable career insights about how best to leverage their post-graduation experiences.
The program also included professional development workshops tailored to attendees’ specific interests. Among the companies, organizations, and institutions represented were Gaming Cxmmunity Co., Deloitte, WRK, Ernst & Young, Dickinson College, and Delta Community Credit Union. The workshops ranged from panels, interactive simulations, and presentations about career fields, including STEAM, business/finance and non-profit/education.
To close the event, the main space was transformed into a career fair with partners manning booths offering information, swag and more to Scholars as they networked. Participating partners included ACLU of Georgia, Deloitte, Delta Community Credit Union, Dickinson College, Emory University School of Medicine, Ernst & Young, Gaming Cxmmunity Co., Inspire Brands, Jackson Spalding, KK Counseling, McKenney’s Inc., Morehouse School of Medicine, USTA, WRK, Youth Villages, and The Law Office of Keith Lamar, Jr.
“Posse Scholars are taking full advantage of these partnerships and learning how to network,” says Posse Atlanta Director Jamaal Greer. “It’s incredible that they are developing these important skills even before stepping foot onto campus.”
