Texas A&M Alum Chosen to Represent Howard University at National Competition

Spring 2024 | Atlanta

Last fall, Texas A&M alum and current Howard University Law student Joshua Baynes competed in the Thurgood Marshall Moot Court Competition hosted by the National Black Law Student’s Association (NBLSA). The annual event, which celebrates the legacy of Thurgood Marshall, “brings together law students from across the nation to engage in meaningful legal advocacy.” Participants prepare for and argue real cases, honing their skills in oral advocacy, legal research and teamwork.

Giving back is an important part of leadership. I am grateful that my Posse training prepared me to be the best leader I could be.

Joshua was one of only two students were selected to represent Howard University in the competition.

“I am honored to be selected to be selected amongst such a talented pool of students,” Joshua says.

As a member of NBSLA, Joshua expands his already vast network of over 13,000 Posse Scholars and alumni to include the over 7,000 young law professionals in the graduate student group. At Howard, he is also a member of the Business Law Society, Fashion Law Society, and the NFL HBCU Experienceship Seedkit Program.

Joshua hopes to pursue corporate law to practice in private equity, venture capital, and investment management. He also aims to leverage his experiences in litigation from Moot Court in pro-bono settings for a law firm in the future.
