Union Scholar Pursues Career in Medicine

Fall 2024 | Boston

Union College Scholar Chidindu (Chidi) Aniekwenagbu has been working diligently to find his place in the medical field during his undergraduate career.

A neuroscience major at the College, Chidi is taking advantage of opportunities to both learn and serve. While serving as Vice President of the Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students, Chidi also worked to gain state licensures as both a certified nursing assistant and emergency medical technician specialist. He recently concluded a surgical services internship with Career Program partner Lahey Hospital, a physician-led nonprofit teaching hospital of Tufts University School of Medicine.

Without Posse’s guidance and support, these achievements wouldn’t be nearly as attainable. With Posse supporting me, I can do anything.

“Posse has been a crucial part of my journey, offering a supportive community, financial resources that make my ambitions achievable, and invaluable career opportunities—like this internship, which has deepened my drive and enhanced my professional experience,” says Chidi.

The Lahey Hospital internship included opportunities to shadow leading orthopedic surgeons and work alongside dedicated healthcare professionals.

Chidi says, “between viewing various surgical cases in the operating room and gaining hands-on experience in patient care through scribing, the internship was a phenomenal opportunity to gain more knowledge of medicine.”

Chidi hopes to make a meaningful impact in global healthcare for underserved communities. He aspires to address the racial disparities in medicine and construct medical organizations in his home country, Nigeria, as a way to give back.
