University of Cambridge School of Physical Sciences Becomes First International Posse Graduate School Partner
The University of Cambridge has announced that it will create graduate studentships for Posse Scholars.
The famed collegiate research university, located in Cambridge, United Kingdom, was founded in 1209. Cambridge is the second-oldest university in the English-speaking world and the world’s fourth-oldest surviving university.
“We are excited about welcoming Posse alumni to Cambridge and proud to be Posse’s first international partner.”

Initially offering one fully-funded studentship (tuition, fees and maintenance) for a Posse student accepted into a full-time MPhil program in the Department of Geography within the School of the Physical Sciences, it is hoped that the affiliation will expand to offer more studentships in other departments.
“We are excited about welcoming Posse alumni to Cambridge and proud to be Posse’s first international partner,” says Professor Nigel Peake, Head of the School of the Physical Sciences at the University of Cambridge. “This is a significant addition to our efforts to widen access and participation at Cambridge to ensure we continue to attract and nurture the brightest talent.”
Posse partners with 64 undergraduate colleges and universities across the United States, which together have awarded $1.8 billion in scholarships to more than 10,000 students since 1989.
With a range of support that extends beyond undergraduate education, Posse’s Graduate + Fellowship Program works to ensure that Scholars and alumni consider and pursue graduate studies at top-tier institutions. As part of these efforts, Posse’s Graduate School Affiliates offer alumni a limited number of full-tuition fellowships each year, including the new University of Cambridge graduate studentship.
“This partnership has the potential to transform lives.”

“We are thrilled to partner with the School of the Physical Sciences, our first overseas affiliation,” says Posse President and Founder Deborah Bial. “The need for visionary leaders in the environmental sciences has never been greater. The department of Geography at Cambridge, among the best in the world, produces scientists of the highest caliber, and this affiliation will help to ensure that Posse Scholars are among them. We look forward to working with Professors Peake and Vira and the entire team at Cambridge on this exciting new endeavor.”
“This partnership has the potential to transform lives,” says Professor Bhaskar Vira, Head of the Department of Geography at the University of Cambridge. “Posse awards are made on the basis of merit. Through this affiliation, the Department will admit talented students who will both benefit from and contribute to Cambridge’s vibrant community. We’re looking forward to meeting the first Cambridge Posse Scholar.”
