UT Austin Scholar Promoted to JROTC First Brigade Commander
This
summer, Jesse Del Rio, a first-year Scholar at The University of Texas at
Austin, was promoted to first brigade commander for the District in Houston
Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program. Jesse now holds the
second highest position in the local JROTC, a program he has been involved with
for four years.
“This position has taught me a lot about leadership,” says Jesse. “The discipline helped me in high school.”
Jesse joined JROTC during his freshman year, rising to commander of the battalion as a senior and earning the rank of cadet colonel, the highest available to a high school student. In addition, he was captain of the cross country team, president of the National Honor Society, and a state representative at the American Legion Texas Boys State, an educational mock-government program for high school students.
Jesse is studying business at The University of Texas at Austin this fall. His experience with the JROTC introduced him to the benefits of teamwork and leadership, and his experience with Posse has reinforced it.
“Having peer support while I’m at college is going to be crucial for my academic success,” says Jesse.
