Vassar Scholar Awarded Comcast NBCUniversal SVA Scholarship, Pursues Entertainment

Winter 2022 | Veterans

Leon Moore, a U.S. Army veteran and Vassar College Posse Veterans Scholar, is a 2021-2022 recipient of the Comcast NBCUniversal Student Veterans of America Scholarship. He was one of two candidates selected for this year’s award, which is designed to support student veterans interested in pursuing careers in the entertainment industry. The award includes a $12,000 scholarship.

"I don't think that I could have gotten here without the Posse Veterans Program.”

"I don’t think that I could have gotten here without the Posse Veterans Program,” Leon says. “From letting me know about the scholarship, to the constant support when it came to editing and updating my resume, this achievement just wouldn’t have been possible. I thank everyone with the program who has helped me to make it this far in my educational journey."

Leon is a cinematography and film/video production and African American/Black studies major. He has an interest in writing and directing and telling the stories of people who have been historically left out of mainstream entertainment. In particular, Leon is interested in work that centers BIPOC and LGBTQ+ narratives.

“The Comcast NBC Universal Student Veterans of America scholarship is a well-deserved accomplishment for Leon,” says Posse Veterans Program Director Adam Lessuck. “The stories he wants to tell are a needed addition to the landscape of this country and there is no better person to bring them to life than Leon.”
