Vassar Scholar Interns at Bloomberg Philanthropies
Alejandro Castro, a sophomore at Vassar College, spent the summer in an internship at Bloomberg Philanthropies.
As part of his summer responsibilities, Alejandro gained invaluable experience interacting with key staff members across a range of departments, from dining services to office logistics.
Alejandro also led a small team of interns tasked with writing a guide for incoming interns. The guide was a success and will be included in a future Bloomberg New Hire Handbook for onboarding staff.
“It has always been crucial for me to share my knowledge with my fellow colleagues,” Alejandro says, reflecting on the handbook project. “I recognize the difference in experiences and perspectives every individual brings with them.”
In addition to the work Alejandro accomplished in the office, he was also an enthusiastic participant in Bloomberg Philanthropies’ employee volunteer program. Over the course of the summer, he volunteered during off-hours by helping to paint a public school in the Bronx and as part of a team packaging meals for homebound individuals.
Alejandro also hosted the newest cohort of Posse Veteran Scholars when the group visited the Bloomberg Philanthropies office during this past July’s Pre-Collegiate Training.
Alejandro is majoring in International Studies with a career interest in research and policy development.
