Villanova Scholar Earns Capstone Accolades
Chris Spears, a distinguished member of Villanova University’s first Posse cohort, has made a profound impact during his time at the university. Graduating with accolades and achievements, Chris reflects on his transformative journey with gratitude and pride.

Chris’s academic journey has been marked by many notable achievements, including receiving the Brian Anderson Memorial Award, which he won for his senior capstone project, ASL Live Interpreting using Machine Learning. As the Machine Learning engineer for the project, Chris played a crucial role in developing a system that interprets American Sign Language in real-time, showcasing his talent and creativity in the field of technology.
The Brian Anderson Memorial Award is given to a senior design group that “demonstrates excellence in the design process, dedication to their work, and academic success.” Chris and his team exemplified these qualities, earning them this prestigious recognition.
Since graduating, Chris has been hired to work as a software engineer for JP Morgan Chase in the New York Metro Area. Simultaneously, he will pursue graduate studies in data science part-time, further honing his expertise and expanding his knowledge in the field.
Chris’s journey is a testament to his hard work, innovation, and passion for technology. As he transitions from student to professional, he remains committed to making impactful contributions in both his career and academic pursuits.
