Winter Programs Support Scholar Professional Development
To help Scholars position themselves for career success, Posse D.C. organized several professional development workshops about cover letter writing, interview skills, and graduate school and fellowship opportunities. The programming, held during winter break, concluded with a networking dinner hosted by Posse D.C. Advisory Board member Scott Stokes, the market president and mid Atlantic division director of Citibank.
Deloitte employees and Bucknell University Posse alumni Odinakachi Anyanwu and Jasmine Niernberger directed a session with Scholars and alumni about the consulting field and how to ace a case interview, a common practice in the field. The event featured a variety of communication exercises and information on internship and job opportunities.
“I'm grateful to have been able to contribute to a program that I greatly benefited from as a Scholar and owe much of my career development to,” says Odinakachi. “The Scholars were prepared, engaged, and asked great questions.”
Wheaton College Posse alumnus Derron Wallace, the Posse director of graduate and fellowship programs, presented more than 20 Scholars and alumni with options for advanced studies and post-graduate experiences. In the spring, interested Scholars will work individually with Derron to apply for competitive graduate school scholarships and opportunities such as the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship.
At the final Career Program event, Scott Stokes led an intimate conversation over dinner with Scholars, sharing his career experience and advice for young professionals.
“It was a great honor to spend time with Posse Scholars,” said Scott. “Listening to their stories about adjusting to college life and hearing all they've accomplished is truly inspiring. I was impressed with the group’s questions about preparing for a career.”
